Schynige Platte Railway

A trip on this nostalgic rack-and-pinion railway with its open carriages is an experience in itself –

and, as you climb higher and higher, the breathtaking view of the mountains opens up in front of you.

If you take the historical rack-and-pinion railway to explore the Schynige Platte in the heart of the Jungfrau Region, you'll feel as if you've been transported back to the period of the Belle Époque. The wooden seats in this nostalgic railway and its rolling stock from the 19th century reflect the style of times gone by and give us the chance to relive "the good old days".

The trains from Wilderswil run between the end of May and the end of October, and it takes just under an hour to get to the viewing area up on the Schynige Platte. The journey will take you through forests and Alpine meadows and provide you with spectacular views of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. And as if that's not enough, as the train climbs higher, you will be able to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the gleaming white triumvirate: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The summit station at a height of 1,967 metres above sea level is the starting point for some amazing circular walks. Also up here, there is an Alpine garden with 650 different plant species. Further attractions up at the summit include Alphorn players, a Hotpot and a room showing the stars in the night sky.
